GPT-6 Comes to Every ChatGPT Plan: What Changes for Free and Paid Users

GPT-6 is now the default model in ChatGPT on every plan, including the free tier. OpenAI announced the update on October 7, 2026: Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users get GPT-6 Sol, while Free and Go users get the lighter GPT-6 Luna. The update also adds Intelligent UI, which lets ChatGPT answer with charts, buttons, forms and small interactive tools instead of only text. This article explains what changed, which model you get and what you can do with it.
What did OpenAI announce?
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 models were first introduced to paid customers the month before, and the October 7 update brings the next generation to more people in ChatGPT’s Chat tab. OpenAI says ChatGPT now has more than 1.2 billion weekly users.
The rollout started on announcement day for Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise accounts and expanded to Free and Go accounts the following day. On Enterprise, access depends on your workplace administrator’s settings. OpenAI also notes that the models powering its Work and Codex products did not change with this update.
Which GPT-6 model do you get on each plan?
| ChatGPT plan | Default model |
|---|---|
| Free | GPT-6 Luna |
| Go | GPT-6 Luna |
| Plus | GPT-6 Sol |
| Pro | GPT-6 Sol |
| Business | GPT-6 Sol |
| Enterprise | GPT-6 Sol (if your admin enables it) |
OpenAI says both models are tuned for everyday conversation. Sol is the more capable model for paid plans, while Luna is the lighter version for Free and Go. OpenAI’s announcement does not list new usage limits or prices, so the limits of your current plan still apply.
What is Intelligent UI in ChatGPT?
Intelligent UI is the most visible change. Instead of answering only in paragraphs, ChatGPT can now mix text with graphics, tappable buttons, forms, charts and small interactive experiences. OpenAI says it built a library of native components and a compiler that displays the interface while the model is still generating it.
OpenAI’s examples include:
- Visual plans: a meal plan or a road trip laid out visually instead of as a long list.
- Interactive explanations: topics such as the central limit theorem or the Monty Hall problem explained with elements you can play with.
- On-demand tools: a bill splitter, a retirement savings calculator or even a simple retro game created inside the chat.
When a plain text answer works best, ChatGPT still gives plain text. You do not need to turn anything on; the interface appears when the model decides it helps.
Is GPT-6 faster than GPT-5.6?
OpenAI says ChatGPT can now start answering while it is still reasoning. In OpenAI’s internal evaluations, GPT-6 Instant started answering web-search questions 44% sooner on average than GPT-5.6 Instant. OpenAI also says GPT-6 addresses the key part of difficult questions more often than GPT-5.6. These are OpenAI’s own measurements, so expect independent testers to publish their own results over the coming weeks.
What changed for safety?
According to OpenAI, GPT-6 is more resistant to attempts to get around its safety training, especially attacks spread across several messages. It is also designed to refuse fewer harmless requests and to be clearer about its limits, for example when it does not have the information or tools it needs. OpenAI published the details in a system card.
How can you try Intelligent UI today?
- Open ChatGPT on the web or in the mobile app and start a new chat.
- Ask for something that benefits from a visual answer, such as “Plan a 3-day road trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco with stops and driving times” or “Make a calculator to split a $180 dinner bill between 4 people with a 20% tip”.
- Use the buttons, sliders or forms in the answer, then ask follow-up questions to change the plan or the numbers.
- Check any figures that matter, such as prices, distances or financial results, against an official source before you rely on them.

What should free users know?
Free users now get GPT-6 Luna with Intelligent UI at no cost, which makes the free tier noticeably more useful for planning and quick calculations. Free plans still have usage limits, and OpenAI’s announcement does not say how many GPT-6 messages free users get. Frequently asked questions
Is GPT-6 free in ChatGPT?
Yes. Free and Go users get GPT-6 Luna, the lighter version of GPT-6. Paid plans get GPT-6 Sol.
Do I need to turn on Intelligent UI?
No. ChatGPT decides when an interactive answer is useful and shows it automatically. It still answers in plain text when that works better.
Does GPT-6 change ChatGPT Dots or Codex?
OpenAI says the models powering Work and Codex are unchanged by this update. To learn more about OpenAI’s agents, read our guide to OpenAI Dots.
Who benefits most from GPT-6?
Free users benefit the most, because they get a newer model and interactive answers without paying. Paid users get GPT-6 Sol and faster responses. Anyone who plans trips, compares options or works with numbers should try asking for a visual or interactive answer to see where Intelligent UI saves time.
